still thinking about food
I’ve already started shopping for non-perishable Thanksgiving food. I’ve got cranberries in the freezer and a jar of chestnuts in cupboard. This weekend we’ll probably go to Costco to stock up on pecans and chicken stock. I’d also like to check out a local wine shop to talk about what to serve with the meal. I’ve even checked in the flock our turkey will come from. So I have food on the brain.
I’m still thinking about the $56 February. Last night I realized that I really DON’T know how much we spend on food on a weekly basis. Sometimes our grocery bill includes soap/kleenex/other things we don’t eat. So, maybe before going all out in February, I should figure out precicely what our current food expenses are. There are a couple of other things I’d like to explore, like exactly how big a portion is and getting the best nutrition out of a meal.
Of course, it’s nice to talk about this now, especially since this is a project i’d like to blog (especially the recipes I like to use). However, it would require that I do start doing something that I rarely ever do: measure the food I cook. I’ve turned into one of those kinda annoying cooks who can never tell you how much garlic to use (a lot), or how long anything will take to make (until it’s done!). If I were to blog this “Pre-February” project, I would feel obligated to do these things so I could 1.) post the recipe and 2.) calculate the nutritional information. *sigh* I may never make up my mind. BUT! If I can manage to pull this off for a couple of months, then it’ll just be habit – right?
